Jargar Classic cello strings are Jargar's original string creation and have been used by amateurs and professionals for over 50 years. Your instrument will have a warm and powerful tone with these strings. This is thanks to the flexible steel core which improves on the traditional gut core by being louder, brighter and more consistent in tone and pitch. The chrome steel winding offers a fantastic versatility to the strings making them capable in many musical settings, no matter who's playing the instrument.

Jargar offers their cello strings in three different tensions, Forte (heavy), Medium and Dolce (light). Lighter strings tend to respond better to the bow and are less tiring for extended periods of playing. While having a slower response to the bow, heavier strings tend to produce a louder and more intense sound. Medium sits in between these. With this choice you can pick the best string tension for your playing style. You can also mix and match different ranges of Jargar strings together to suit your playing best.
Jargar also offer G and C strings in a silver wound "Silver Sound" variation. These emulate the sound of gut strings more and are often combined with the standard strings for a warmer and more round sound. The softer and warmer sound produced with silver is perfect for lower strings which is why these alternate strings are offered for the G and C strings.
Jargar began in 1956 after years of experimentation by Danish cellist, Jarl Hansen. Hansen wanted more from his cello than the gut strings he was using could provide. Hansen developed a string with a core of steel and wound with pure or alloyed metal. Like many other string makers, Hansen realised that steel cores offered far greater stability and durability than gut strings and a stronger tone. Hansen's strings grew to be extremely popular amongst classical musicians and the company expanded to making strings for violin, viola and double bass as well as the cello.
