Built for transparency
The XL 9000 K was developed with a different philosophy to earlier SSL consoles, focusing on preserving the original signal rather than imparting a strong sonic signature. Softube has recreated this approach in detail, delivering a channel strip with exceptionally low distortion and a remarkably clean response. This transparency allows source material to shine through without unnecessary coloration, making it easier to build balanced, detailed mixes. If you're working with complex arrangements or recordings where accuracy matters, the XL 9000 K provides a dependable foundation that keeps every element sounding natural and defined.
Preserve every detail
The combination of extreme bandwidth and minimal phase shift gives the XL 9000 K its distinctive sense of openness. Low frequencies remain solid and controlled, while high frequencies retain clarity without becoming harsh. This helps maintain separation between instruments, allowing dense productions to breathe more easily. Perfect for mixing electronic tracks with deep bass content or acoustic recordings with subtle dynamic nuances, the channel strip helps preserve the depth and width of the original performance while maintaining focus throughout the mix.
Shape harmonic character your way
Although the original console is known for its clean sound, Softube recognised that many producers still want access to analogue-style saturation. That's why SSL's Variable Harmonic Distortion circuit has been modelled alongside the channel strip. The Drive control introduces harmonic content, while the Character control lets you move between second-order and third-order distortion profiles. This gives you access to smoother valve-inspired tones, more aggressive transistor-style textures, or any blend between the two.
Flexible dynamics processing
The XL 9000 K for Console 1 extends beyond EQ and saturation by offering additional control over dynamics. Its gate section provides detailed adjustment through controls linked to Range and Hold behaviour, allowing you to tailor gating more precisely to individual sources. This can be particularly useful when tightening drum recordings or reducing unwanted spill. Alongside this, the compressor offers both Peak and RMS detection modes. Peak mode reacts more aggressively to transients, while RMS mode provides a smoother, more musical response, giving you greater flexibility across a wide range of material.
