At the heart of the OC818 is the handmade CKR12 Ceramic Capsule. This high-end and handcrafted capsule is highly unique. It combines a classic edge-terminated capsule design with modern innovation to deliver the best possible acoustic performance.

Bringing passion and years of expertise to the design, the CKR-12 is sure to impress even the most demanding of microphone connoisseurs. It provides you with multiple polar patterns, meaning it is suitable for a range of recording applications. It captures every nuance from instrument or vocal recordings for high-end audio fidelity.

Dual outputs – record duets, ensembles and immersive stereo tracks

Dual outputs for optimal versatility. The Austrian Audio OC818 features dual outputs for recording each diaphragm separately. The dual outputs serve to provide flexibility when it comes to recording, delivering immersive sound.

Dual outputs for perfect for expanding your polar pattern selection. You can also use it capture duets and ensemble recordings with maximum detail. When both capsules are recorded, you can capture a stereo or dual-mono track. You can also use the free, open-source Polar Designer Plug-in for high-end control and tailoring of your polar patterns.

Polar Designer plug-in – create your own polar pattern

In addition to the selectable on-board polar patterns, the OC818 can utilise virtually any style of polar pattern. Polar Designer is a specialised plug-in designed by Austrian Audio to give you unprecedented control over your polar patterns. It spans between 1 and 5 bands, providing you with selectable crossover points during the mix process.

You can use this before or in post-production to edit the sound of your microphone. You can even create our own unique polar pattern using the intuitive application. The in-depth equalisation control allows you to imprint the tonality of free-field or diffuse-field responses. Additionally, the Terminator AI helps to eliminate or push selected frequencies and instruments to the front of your mix.

PolarPilot App

Using the optional OCR8 Bluetooth Remote (not included), you can control the polar patterns and settings of your microphone wirelessly. Via the PolarPilot app you can save, recall and share your favourite settings. There are 255 discrete polar patterns you can create and experiment with, allowing you to create custom settings for use with instruments, voices and more.

You can even store a single custom polar setting on the OC818 for use without the PolarPilot app. The PolarPilot App is designed for both Android and iOS devices. Control high-pass filters and pads in real-time via Bluetooth, with a 60-second OC818 clipping monitor/logger for added flexibility.

Integrated filtering and pads

The integrated controls on the front of the microphone allow you toggle filters and pad settings. Select between multiple polar patterns to cater to different recording applications. For instance, using the cardioid polar pattern is perfect for vocal recordings. You can also use the figure-of-eight pattern for ensembles, interviews and duets. There are also two differing types of analog pads on offer, ideal for reigning in hotter signals.
