Key Features
The Doepfer A-115 is a four-way frequency divider. In its most basic use, this module will divide the frequency of a waveform by two up to four times. This essentially adds up to four octaves below the input pitch. Only square waves are output by the module so any audio will be converted to square waves before being divided. Doepfer are well known for introducing the Eurorack standard in 1996 with the A-100 modular system. Their modules are renowned for their functionality and affordability.

There are four levels of division, each one dividing the frequency by two. Up to 1/16 of the original frequency is possible as a result. This module has 4 controls for each level of division. These control the amplitude of each level. There is also a knob to control the amplitude of the original signal. This module outputs true square waves so whatever signal is inputted, it will be converted using the Schmitt-Trigger system. The output is the four sub-octave square waves and the original signal.
As a quite simple and basic module, the A-115 becomes really exciting when combined with other modules. For example, a monophonic instrument signal, like a guitar, can be inputted into an envelope follower. The audio can then be routed into the A-115 and the envelope follower output can be used to trigger an ADSR that is connected to a VCA on the output of this module. This creates a nice envelope and prevents any glitches when the level of the guitar is too low to be properly processed by the A-115, like when a note is dying away.
