Flexible dual channel layout for modern gain demands
The Powerball module presents two channels drawn from the original amplifier’s third and fourth voices. Each channel includes independent gain, volume and EQ controls that help you tailor the levels and tonal balance to suit your own playing.
The Blue channel provides overdrive with strong definition across the midrange while the Red channel delivers focused saturation suited to more aggressive material. Both channels include Gain Lo or Hi switches that adjust the intensity of the preamp stage. The Mid Boost function reinforces presence to support articulate riffing or lead work. This collection of controls allows you to move from controlled crunch to dense distortion without losing clarity.
All-tube design supported by refined engineering
This module uses two 12AX7 valves chosen for their ability to deliver the harmonic content expected from Engl circuitry. The valve response adds depth to clean transients and retains articulation even at higher gain settings. By working directly with Horst Langer, Synergy ensured the module reflects the structure and behaviour of the original Powerball preamp.
The Engl Powerball delivers strong low-end stability, firm mids and precise top-end extension. This makes the module suitable for players who want consistency in complex arrangements or fast passages where undefined gain can mask detail. The result is a unit that feels responsive under the fingers and presents tones that remain controlled in a mix.
Cathode Select switch for personalised response
The Cathode Select switch offers three combinations of resistor and capacitor values that alter the input stage behaviour. These adjustments refine the tightness and low-end feel without requiring additional external processing. Position 1 suits USA voiced modules through a 1.5K resistor and 22uf capacitor.
Position 2 delivers a British style response through a 2.7K resistor and .68uf capacitor. Position 3 reflects the Powerball design itself with a 1.8K resistor and 1uf capacitor. This setting is applied at the factory. You can explore alternative positions to find the response that suits your playing style. This flexibility supports a wide range of instruments and tunings.
Compatibility through the Dual or Single switching mode
The Dual or Single switch extends the use of the module across different generations of modular hardware. When installed in modern Synergy equipment, the Dual mode provides complete access to both channels from standard switching functions.
When used in older Egnater or Randall platforms that do not provide dual channel capability, the Single setting allows the module to operate as a one-channel unit. This ensures that players with legacy gear can still integrate the module into their setups. By supporting both formats, Synergy has created a design that works across a variety of rigs without compromise.
