Shape your sound with simple passive controls
The Marcus Vintage J-Revolution pickup set gives the V5 its passive, jazz-style electronics setup. You get dedicated volume controls for the neck and bridge pickups, so it's easy to change their balance and find the combination that suits your playing. A master tone control handles overall tonal adjustment without adding a more involved preamp section. This simple arrangement keeps the controls accessible whether you're making quick changes while playing or setting up your preferred sound beforehand. It also supports the V5's vintage-focused design — giving you direct control over two pickups and their overall tone without unnecessary extras.
Enjoy a smooth roasted maple neck
Comfort matters when you're working across five strings, and the V5 pairs a roasted hard maple neck with a matching roasted hard maple fingerboard. The wood undergoes torrefaction, a process designed to give it characteristics associated with aged timber. Its C-shaped profile provides a familiar playing platform, while rolled fretboard edges create a smoother transition around the sides of the fingerboard. You'll also have a 9.5-inch radius and 2.4mm medium frets under your fingers. Together, these details provide a practical neck setup for navigating the full 34-inch scale.
Get a vintage-focused alder build
A North American alder body forms the foundation of the V5, complementing its vintage-inspired electronics and hardware. The body uses Sire's New Marcus Miller jazz-type shape, bringing the instrument's traditional design cues together in a five-string format. Its neck is secured using a four-bolt steel square plate, while a 46mm bone nut supports the five-string configuration. This Champagne Gold Metallic model pairs its body finish with a three-ply black pickguard, black Jazz-type control knobs, black binding, and black square block inlays. Chrome hardware adds the finishing contrast for a clear, coordinated aesthetic.
Keep tuning and setup straightforward
The V5 uses premium open-gear tuning machines, giving you a traditional hardware layout for adjusting each of its five strings. At the other end, the Marcus Miller Vintage S bridge continues the bass's vintage-led specification and anchors the strings at the body. Both components come in a chrome finish, matching the instrument's wider hardware styling. Combined with the passive control layout, this keeps the V5's setup refreshingly straightforward. You can concentrate on pickup balance, tone, and tuning without working through additional electronics, making it particularly approachable if you prefer direct controls and a traditional jazz-style bass configuration.
