The Genesis Collection pays tribute to the instruments that helped define modern guitar performance, and the RG550 remains one of the most celebrated models in Ibanez history. Manufactured in Japan using the same design philosophy that made the original RG series a benchmark for high-performance guitars, it delivers the speed, precision, and reliability that players have trusted for decades. Every detail reflects the legacy of the RG platform, from its aggressive styling to its player-focused ergonomics, making it an instrument that feels instantly familiar to long-time Ibanez fans while remaining highly relevant for today's musicians.
The Super Wizard 5-piece maple and walnut neck is designed for effortless speed and exceptional comfort. Its famously thin profile allows fast position changes and fluid technical playing while maintaining impressive stability and strength. Paired with a 430 mm radius maple fretboard and 24 jumbo frets, it creates a smooth playing surface that excels during demanding lead work, wide bends, and intricate chord voicings. The bolt-on construction adds snap and attack to the guitar's response, while the satin-finished neck enhances comfort during long practice sessions and performances.
The RG550's V7 neck humbucker, S1 single-coil middle pickup, and V8 bridge humbucker provide a broad range of usable sounds. From crystal-clear clean tones and glassy in-between positions to aggressive rock and metal distortion, the HSH configuration offers exceptional flexibility across multiple genres. The 5-way switching system allows players to access a wide variety of pickup combinations, making the RG550 equally capable in studio environments, live performances, and home practice setups. This versatility has been a defining feature of the RG platform since its introduction.
At the heart of the RG550 is the legendary Edge tremolo, widely regarded as one of the finest double-locking systems ever produced. Designed for precise intonation, smooth operation, and outstanding tuning stability, it allows expressive vibrato techniques while maintaining pitch accuracy under demanding use. Complementing the bridge are premium Gotoh machine heads, renowned for their smooth feel and precise adjustment. Together, these components create a professional-grade performance platform capable of handling everything from subtle vibrato to extreme divebombs while remaining stable and reliable throughout every performance.
