The early '60s SG quickly became a favourite of players who wanted aggressive tone and effortless playability. From Angus Young to Tony Iommi, its sharp horns, lightweight mahogany body and searing humbucker voice defined countless classic records. This Custom Shop Historic Reissue continues that legacy with period-correct construction and detailing, recreating the magic of the original 1961 model with remarkable accuracy and attention to detail.

All solid woods and hide glue construction

Crafted from solid mahogany with no weight relief, the body delivers rich midrange punch and natural sustain. The neck is joined using a long tenon and hide glue fit, maximising resonance and tonal transfer just like the originals. The Authentic 1961 neck profile provides a comfortable, fast-playing feel that suits both intricate lead work and solid rhythm playing. Combined with the 24.75" scale and 12" radius rosewood fingerboard, it offers classic Gibson response across all 22 authentic medium-jumbo frets.

Custombuckers and vintage electronics

Fitted with Custombucker Alnico 3 pickups in the neck and bridge positions, this SG delivers clear, articulate PAF-style tones with warmth and bite. Clean settings sparkle with definition, while overdriven sounds remain focused and harmonically rich. The electronics feature CTS 500K audio taper potentiometers and Black Beauty capacitors, ensuring smooth control response and expressive roll-off. With independent volume and tone controls plus a 3-way Switchcraft selector, you get complete tonal flexibility.

Period-correct hardware and VOS finish

An ABR-1 bridge and lightweight aluminium stop bar tailpiece anchor the strings for classic feel and sustain, finished in authentic nickel alongside Kluson single line, double ring tuners. The black multi-ply pickguard, M69 mounting rings and cream switch tip reflect true early '60s styling. Completed in a VOS nitrocellulose Cherry Red finish, and supplied in a Custom Shop hardshell case with Certificate of Authenticity booklet and Historic hang tags, it’s a meticulous tribute to one of Gibson’s most iconic designs.
