The Black Lion Audio Seventeen Compressor combines the best of both worlds, fusing 76-style compression with modern technology to achieve this versatile outboard compressor. The Seventeen Compressor is designed side by side with Tobias Lindell, with a meticulous design using high-end components. The IC based front-end has been redesigned and improved, providing exceptional sonic accuracy with extreme detail. The pristine front-end circuit features a custom design, coupled with the custom Chicago output transformer. This results in the unit having a powerful low-end response, coupled with airy highs and an open top. The Black Lion-style power decoupling results in an ultra-low noise floor.
One of the most unique features of the Seventeen Compressor is the frequency adjustable side chain circuitry. Also included are independent and selectable highpass and lowpass filters. Basing its design on 76-style FET compressors, the Seventeen brings classic style compression into the modern era. The ultra-fast response time and wet/dry mix control allows you to achieve some interesting sonic results, with a varied tonal palette. The versatile capabilities make it perfect for a range of sound source from bass and kick drums to guitars, pianos and even vocals.
The robust, rack-mountable chassis is not only durable but can easily be mounted with a live or studio rack. Its sleek black finish looks sleek with vintage-style design aspects that complement the black colour scheme. The unit uses high-grade Nichicon signal capacitors, considered some of the best quality caps available on the market. The rear of the unit features a stereo link function, used for linking two separate units together. This can be used for applications such as parallel compression for interesting results.
